White House East Wing Demolition Begins for New Trump Ballroom

WASHINGTON, 21 October (H.S.): Construction crews began demolishing a significant portion of the White House East Wing on Monday to make way for President Donald Trump’s new ballroom. Heavy machinery was seen tearing down the facade, including a covered entryway and windows, of the historic structure .

President Trump announced the start of the project on social media, describing it as a much-needed addition that presidents have desired for over 150 years. He stated that the East Wing is undergoing a full modernisation and that the new ballroom will be completely separate from the White House itself. This contrasts with his July statement where he assured the project would be near it but not touching it and pay total respect to the existing building.

The $250 million, 90,000-square-foot project is being privately funded by many generous Patriots, according to Trump. The new venue is intended to accommodate large events like state visits and grand parties, with Trump stating it will seat 999 guests.

The East Wing, which houses the offices of the first lady and other facilities, was originally constructed in 1902 and last modified in 1942. The current demolition represents one of the most significant renovations to the White House grounds in decades.
