Israeli Strike Kills Senior Hezbollah Commander in Southern Lebanon

BEIRUT, 26 October (H.S.): An Israeli airstrike on Saturday killed a senior Hezbollah commander in southern Lebanon, the latest in a series of attacks that have tested a fragile ceasefire. Lebanon’s health ministry confirmed one person was killed when a strike hit a vehicle in the Nabatiyeh district. The Israeli military later identified the deceased as Zayn al-Abidin Hussein Fatouni, a commander in the anti-tank unit of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force.Israel stated that Fatouni was involved in efforts to reestablish Hezbollah’s infrastructure in the region.

The strike on Saturday follows a recent intensification of Israeli attacks despite a November 2024 ceasefire agreement.

On Friday, two separate strikes killed a Hezbollah logistics commander and another member. A day earlier, Israeli raids killed four people, including an elderly woman. These hostilities persist despite the 2024 truce, which stipulated an Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon and a Hezbollah pullback north of the Litani River.

Israel has maintained troops at several strategic border points, while the Lebanese government, under US pressure, has moved to begin disarming Hezbollah, a plan the powerful movement and its allies oppose.
