
ANKARA, Turkey , 28 October (H.S.): The United Kingdom finalized a landmark agreement worth up to £8 billion on Monday to supply 20 Typhoon fighter jets to Turkey, marking the UK’s largest combat aircraft export deal in nearly two decades.The deal was signed during a visit to the Turkish capital by UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who described it as a win for British workers, a win for our defence industry and a win for Nato security.
Standing alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Starmer called the agreement a landmark moment that will bolster security across the NATO alliance. President Erdogan hailed it as a new symbol of the strategic relations between the two nations.This major procurement is set to support thousands of skilled jobs across the UK, particularly at BAE Systems’ plants in Lancashire where final assembly occurs.
The Eurofighter jets are jointly produced by a consortium of Britain, Germany, Italy, and Spain.Under the terms of the deal, the delivery of the first jets is expected to begin in 2030, with an option for Turkey to purchase more aircraft in the future.
Defence Secretary John Healey emphasized the economic benefits, stating the agreement would pump billions of pounds into our economy and keep British Typhoon production lines turning long into the future.
