Govt asks IndiGo to complete refund process for cancelled flights by Sunday evening
Srinagar, Dec 06 (KINS): Amid widespread flight disruptions affecting thousands of passengers, the Civil Aviation Ministry on Saturday issued strict directions to IndiGo, asking the airline to complete all pending ticket refunds for cancelled flights by Sunday evening and ensure that stranded baggage is delivered to passengers within 48 hours.
The intervention comes a day after IndiGo—India’s largest airline—cancelled over 1,000 flights, leading to massive travel chaos for the fifth consecutive day. On Saturday alone, more than 400 flights were cancelled across major airports, leaving passengers frustrated and demanding accountability.
In a strongly worded statement, the ministry said any delay or non-compliance in refund processing will result in immediate regulatory action.
“Airlines have also been instructed not to levy any rescheduling charges for passengers whose travel plans were affected by cancellations,” the ministry added.
To streamline the process, IndiGo has been told to set up dedicated passenger support and refund facilitation cells.
“These cells will proactively contact affected passengers and ensure refunds and alternative travel arrangements are completed without repeated follow-ups,” the ministry said, noting that an automatic refund system will remain active until operations return to normal.
The ministry further directed that all baggage misplaced due to cancellations or delays must be traced and delivered to passengers within the next 48 hours, adding another layer of accountability on the embattled airline.
The government said it is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to take necessary measures to protect passenger rights as IndiGo works to stabilise operations.(KINS)
