
Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department has proposed a 49-day winter break for degree colleges in the Kashmir division and winter zones of the Jammu division, beginning December 27.
Director Colleges of Jammu and Kashmir, Prof Sheikh Ajaz Bashir said that the proposed winter vacation would be observed from December 27 to February 14, subject to approval by the competent authority.
“As per the academic planner of the Higher Education Department, we have proposed to announce the 49-day winter vacation for colleges of the Kashmir division and winter zones of the Jammu division from December 27,” he said, adding that approval is yet to be received.
Meanwhile, the School Education Department had earlier announced winter vacations for schools in a phased manner. In an order issued on November 25, School Education Department Secretary Ram Niwas Sharma said winter break for pre-primary classes from Balvatika would be observed from November 26 to February 28, 2026.
For middle classes up to Class 8, vacations will be observed from December 1 to February 28, while winter break for Classes 9 to 12 will be from December 11 to February 22.
The School Education Department also directed that all teaching faculty remain available for any academic activity during the vacation period.
