
Jammu- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said smart technology and data-driven decision-making will shape the future of Indian Railways, as he interacted with Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) officer trainees at Lok Bhavan in Jammu.
During the interaction, the Lieutenant Governor urged the young officers to focus on developing technology-inspired railway infrastructure to support the vision of a developed India. Describing Indian Railways as the “circulatory system of India’s aspirations,” he said the vast network drives economic growth, strengthens social cohesion, and connects the nation from remote rural habitations to major industrial centres.
“From formidable mountain heights to distant habitations, Indian Railways threads together industry and markets while energising the everyday lives of millions,” he said.
Emphasising the importance of data and technology, the Lieutenant Governor said the wealth of operational, passenger, and freight data must be harnessed through scientific analysis to transform service delivery. He said a technology and intelligence-driven approach would sharpen demand forecasting, optimise resource allocation, reduce accident risks, and strengthen railway infrastructure.
“Smart technology holds the key to reimagining Indian Railways as a passenger-first mobility powerhouse for the 21st century,” he said, adding that as India’s economy grows and cities expand, the demand for efficient logistics will continue to rise. He noted that Indian Railways is evolving to become swifter, safer, and more dependable, with emphasis on enhanced operations and optimal resource deployment.
The Lieutenant Governor also highlighted the critical role of reforms and technology in the freight sector. He said dedicated freight corridors, modern logistics terminals, and integrated digital platforms could make freight transport faster, cheaper, and more competitive, thereby reducing costs for industries and giving a boost to the Indian economy.
Stressing the need for future-ready infrastructure, he said developing a multimodal logistics network by integrating rail with road and other modes of transport is essential to meet emerging mobility and logistics demands.
Extending his best wishes to the officer trainees, the Lieutenant Governor encouraged them to embrace new challenges and opportunities, and to keep national interest paramount in their professional conduct.
“Every file, every decision, and every order you make must have the ultimate objective of serving the nation and building a developed India,” he said.
The IRMS officer trainees are visiting the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir as part of the Bharat Darshan programme. Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor Dr Mandeep K. Bhandari, course directors, and senior officials were also present during the interaction.
