Kashmir Holds Quran Khawani, Marsiya Recitations in Memory of Ayatollah Khamenei

Srinagar- Solemn gatherings were organised across the Kashmir Valley on Monday as people recited marsiya and held Quran khawani to pay homage to Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah  Sayyed Ali Khamenei, following his assassination in a reported United States–Israel military strike that has heightened tensions in West Asia.

For the second consecutive day, religious congregations assembled at various localities in Srinagar and other districts, where verses from the Holy Quran were recited and elegies were offered in remembrance of the departed leader. Clerics addressed the gatherings, urging restraint and peaceful observance while reflecting on Khamenei’s political and religious legacy.

In Srinagar, special congregations were held in several neighbourhoods, including Zadibal , Saida Kadal, Lal Bazar, Chattabal, Habba Kadal and Pandrethan while similar programmes took place in other parts of Kashmir. Participants gathered in an orderly manner, engaging in collective prayers and remembrance ceremonies.

At Alamgari Bazar Chowk, people assembled for Zuhr prayers, which were followed by brief condolence addresses. The gathering concluded peacefully, with attendees dispersing without incident.

Authorities had earlier imposed precautionary measures across Kashmir, including the closure of schools and colleges, curbs at the district level and restrictions on internet speed. Officials said the steps were taken to maintain public order in view of the prevailing situation.

Security presence remained heightened throughout the region, with additional deployments at key intersections and sensitive points, particularly in Srinagar. Senior police and civil officials were seen monitoring the situation on the ground.

An official said the precautionary measures would continue on Tuesday as well. “Restrictions will remain in place as a preventive step. The situation is being closely monitored, and necessary arrangements have been made to ensure peace,” he said.

Authorities reiterated their appeal for calm, stating that maintaining law and order remains the priority Kashmir observes mourning ceremonies in memory of the late Iranian leader.
