New Delhi, 27 February (HS): The Confederation of All India Traders (CIAT) on Thursday justified the decision of the Delhi High Court against the giant e-commerce company Amazon. CAIT National General Secretary Praveen Khandelwal has urged the central government and regulatory bodies to take strict action against the repeated wrongful activities of e-commerce company Amazon. He has also demanded the implementation of appropriate policies to protect Indian businesses from unethical and illegal business practices of foreign e-commerce companies.

The High Court has imposed a fine of $ 39 million (about Rs 340 crore) on Amazon for violating the ‘Beverly Hills Polo Club’ trademark. On the second day of this, Khandelwal said that this decision of the High Court against Amazon makes it clear that there is a dire need to implement trademark compliance measures from e-commerce platforms. Khandelwal said that this decision will have far-reaching effects on online marketplaces operating in India. He said that this decision of the High Court is a big victory for the brand owners and reflects the commitment of the Indian judiciary to the protection of intellectual property rights in the digital age.

He said that Amazon has a long history of legal violations, including the sale of counterfeit products, tax evasion, and violation of India’s e-commerce rules. CAIT General Secretary said that despite repeated warnings and legal action, the platform has been engaged in exploiting small businesses, misleading consumers and disregarding Indian laws. This latest decision of the court is evidence of Amazon’s irresponsible business practices and failure to implement effective compliance measures.

CAIT National President BC Bhartia said that e-commerce platforms operating in India should be held accountable for illegal and unethical activities taking place on their platform. He said that now the time has come to take punitive action along with creating a strict regulatory monitoring body, so that multinational companies stop weakening India’s trade system and violating the rights of traders, consumers and brand owners.
