BNP leader shot dead in Bangladesh

Dhaka, 07 February (HS): Mamun Hussain, leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, was shot dead by unknown people in Fatullah of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila early this morning. 42-year-old Mamun Hussain was targeted near Purbalpur railway line. He used to do business of brick and sand.

According to the Dhaka Tribune newspaper, Mamun Hussain, joint coordinator of BNP’s voluntary group, was shot in front of his business firm Maa-Babar Ashirwad Traders. His elder brother Amjad Hussain confirmed this. Amjad said that some people woke Mamun up from home and took him in front of Maa-Babar Ashirwad Traders. He was shot there. He reached there after hearing the sound of bullets. From there, the bleeding Mamun was taken to Narayanganj Hospital in Khanpur. Doctors declared his brother dead.

Fatullah Model Police Station in-charge Shariful Islam said that it is not yet clear why Mamun was killed. But this incident could be the result of business competition.
