Jammu- In a concerted effort to curb ticketless travel and enhance passenger experience, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway carried out an extensive ticket-checking drive throughout April 2026, generating more than ₹76 lakh in penalties.
The month-long campaign was conducted under the supervision of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal. Ticket-checking teams were deployed across key railway stations including Jammu Tawi railway station, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station, Udhampur railway station, and Pathankot Cantt railway station, as well as on trains passing through the division.
According to official figures, over 13,000 passengers were found travelling without valid tickets or with irregular tickets during the campaign. These violations resulted in fines exceeding ₹76 lakh, reflecting both the scale of enforcement and the persistence of ticketless travel in the region.
Railway officials emphasized that the objective of the drive was not merely revenue generation but also ensuring a safer, more comfortable journey for law-abiding passengers. By removing unauthorized travellers from reserved compartments, the division aims to improve travel conditions and uphold the rights of passengers with valid reservations.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Singhal stated that the campaign is part of a broader strategy to promote discipline and awareness among passengers. He urged travellers to always carry valid tickets and avoid purchasing them from unauthorized vendors. He also encouraged the use of digital platforms such as UTS on Mobile and RailOne for hassle-free ticketing.
“The goal is to provide a safe and dignified travel experience. These drives are meant to create awareness as much as they are to enforce rules,” he said, adding that such initiatives will be further strengthened in the coming months.
The Jammu Division reiterated its appeal to passengers to comply with ticketing norms and cooperate with railway authorities to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
