Srinagar- Two persons have been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in Bandipora district of North Kashmir, police said on Monday.

Police received information about the alleged incident around noon on Sunday and immediately launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances and identify those involved.

During the investigation, police identified two suspects who were not previously known to the minor, officials said.

The accused were apprehended during overnight raids at different locations, a senior police officer said, as per news agency KNT.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of law, including those pertaining to offences against children, and further investigation is underway.

Police said efforts are on to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.
