

Imphal, 01 March (HS): On the appeal of Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the public in various districts voluntarily surrendered a total of 33 types of weapons, ammunition and other materials. This surrender was done at various police stations in Tengnoupal, Imphal East, Kangpokpi, Imphal West and Thoubal districts.
Many weapons including INSAS rifle, 51 mm mortar, magazines, 9 mm live rounds, misfire rounds, country-made grenades and IEDs were surrendered at Moreh police station in Tengnoupal district.
Various types of cartridges, hand grenades, smoke grenades, locally made guns, wireless sets and bulletproof jackets were deposited at Lamlai, Porompat, CDO-Imphal East and Sagolmung police stations in Imphal East district.
Various types of country-made weapons, grenades, helmets and bulletproof jackets were also surrendered at Patsoi and Lamfal police stations in Imphal West district.
In Thoubal district, several weapons including .303 rifles and hand grenades were also surrendered by the public at the SP office. Police and security agencies are inspecting the surrendered weapons. It is noteworthy that after the deadline for voluntary surrender expired, the Governor again extended the deadline for seven days on Friday.
