WAVRE, Aug. 31: Germany successfully defended their men’s Hockey World Cup title after defeating Spain 1-0 in a closely fought final in Wavre, Belgium.

Michel Struthoff scored the only goal of the match in the 44th minute, giving Germany the breakthrough in a tightly contested encounter.

Spain attempted to respond during the final quarter but Germany’s defence held firm under pressure to protect their narrow advantage until the final whistle.

The triumph marks Germany’s fourth men’s Hockey World Cup title and allows them to retain the crown they won in 2023. The achievement also moves Germany level with Pakistan on four World Cup championships.

Germany’s latest success further strengthens their position among the most successful teams in international men’s hockey, while Spain had to settle for the runners-up spot after a determined campaign.
