

Imphal, 02 March (HS): After Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla extended the deadline for surrender of weapons, the process of voluntary surrender of weapons is going on in the state. Police said on Sunday that a total of 42 different types of weapons, a large amount of ammunition and other items were voluntarily deposited by the public in Imphal West, Churachandpur, Imphal East, Vishnupur and Tamenglong districts.
In this regard, .303 rifle, double barrel gun, SBBL, 36 HE grenades, country-made pistol, bulletproof jacket, helmet, walkie-talkie, ammunition and other military equipment were handed over to CDO Vishnupur, Vishnupur district.
Local made SBBL gun, pumpy gun, walkie-talkie, IED, local made hand grenade, ammunition were handed over to Kaimai Police Station, Tamenglong district.
In Imphal East district, 9mm pistol, INSAS rifle magazines, hand grenades, wireless sets, mortar bombs, SBBL guns, cartridges and other weapons were handed over.
In Churachandpur police station, Churachandpur district, .303 rifles, 7.62mm Ghatak rifles, 12 bore rifles, local IEDs, bulletproof helmets and jackets, grenades were handed over.
Apart from these, in Lamsang police station, Imphal West district, .303 rifles, SLR rifles, stun shells, tear smoke shells, bulletproof helmets, magazines and other weapons were handed over.
The police have appealed to the public to voluntarily surrender whatever illegal weapons they have so that peace and stability can be restored in the state.
