Country’s first female drone pilot team launch in Gurugram

Gurugram, March 4 (HS): Skye Air Mobility, in aviation and logistics, has paid tribute to women on International Women’s Day by launching the country’s first female drone pilot team on the land of Guru Drona. A target has also been set to make 500 female drone pilots in the future.

In a special program here, 10 female drone pilots and Sky Walkers used their proprietary drone delivery technology. Seamless, end-to-end delivery of everything from medicines and grocery items to iPhones was done. The entire process from flying the drone to delivering the essential material to its destination was done only by women. This is being seen as the world’s first achievement in completely women-led drone logistics. With the drone industry growing rapidly, the demand for skilled pilots is increasing, breaking barriers for women and opening up new avenues of leadership in this emerging profession. Globally, women’s representation in drone aviation is increasing. In the US, the number of women holding FAA remote pilot certificates has nearly doubled from 3.9 percent in 2016 to 6.7 percent in 2019. India is taking bold steps to ensure that women are at the forefront of this transformation.

With women’s growing interest and active participation in this field, companies are now focusing on developing educational programs and skill-based training to bridge the gender gap and empower women.

Skye Air Mobility Founder and CEO Ankit Kumar says that recognizing the potential of women in drone logistics, Skye Air Mobility will train 500 women pilots and sky walkers in the next two years. This initiative also matches the spirit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Namo Drone Didi. He said that urban logistics are developing at an unprecedented pace. Gurugram alone recorded 1.5 lakh drone deliveries in February 2025, ranging from iPhones to daily grocery items. All types of goods are delivered to customers in less than seven minutes.
