05 March (HS): Yogi Adityanath, the
Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, has called on the Samajwadi Party (SP) to
discipline Maharashtra MLA Abu Azmi for glorifying Mughal monarch
Aurangzeb. Adityanath chastised SP for
departing from Indian cultural norms and emphasized the contributions of
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and socialist leader Dr Ram Manohar Lohia. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath
asked the Samajwadi Party on Wednesday to take a hard position on controversial
statements made by party leader and Maharashtra MLA Abu Azmi, calling on Azmi’s
expulsion over Azmi’s praise of Mughal monarch Aurangzeb. Adityanath, addressing in the Legislative
Council, challenged the party to bring Azmi to Uttar Pradesh, claiming the
state is well-versed in dealing with such issues.
He
accused the Samajwadi Party of adopting double standards by criticizing Kumbh
but praising Aurangzeb. Adityanath questioned the Samajwadi Party’s support for
India’s cultural and spiritual history, citing the cultural legacies of
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and socialist leader Dr Ram Manohar Lohia. Azmi’s comments sparked outrage, resulting to
his suspension from the Maharashtra Assembly.
