SC grants interim bail to Abbas Ansari in UP Gangsters Act Case

YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia approaches Supreme Court in obscene comment case

New Delhi, March 7 (HS): The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Mukhtar Ansari’s son Abbas Ansari in the UP Gangster Act case. A bench headed by Justice Suryakant directed Abbas Ansari to stay in his official residence in Lucknow.

The court has mandated that Abbas Ansari should seek prior permission from the administration before visiting his constituency, Mau, and has prohibited him from leaving Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, he must notify local police 24 hours before attending any court. While granting interim bail, the court ordered the police to submit a status report on his conduct at the next hearing, emphasizing that regular bail will depend on the review of his behavior.

The court issued a notice to the UP government on January 31. During the hearing, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal for Abbas Ansari argued that a previous FIR regarding gang activities in Chitrakoot was quashed, making the new FIR surprising. Sibal expressed concerns for Ansari’s safety in being taken to court physically, advocating for video conferencing instead. However, the Supreme Court stated that such a request wasn’t part of the petition and directed the matter to the High Court for urgent resolution.
