
Chennai, 11 March (H.S.): A controversial lecture titled How to Spread Christianity in India scheduled to be held at the University of Madras has been cancelled following widespread outrage and protests.
Flagging the issue, BJP State Secretary Dr S G Suryah on his X handle condemned the university authorities for organising the event. He objected the lecture (https://x.com/SuryahSG/status/1897984418116931635) which was to be delivered by a Christian evangelist, had sparked controversy with many accusing the university of promoting religious conversion and undermining India’s secular fabric.
The University of Madras had initially defended the lecture, stating that it was part of an academic conference on comparative religions. However, following intense backlash and protests from various Hindu organizations, the university authorities have decided to cancel the lecture.
The cancellation of the lecture has been welcomed by many who had opposed the event, citing concerns about religious conversion and the need to maintain India’s secular values.
