Guwahati, 11 March (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a major plan to set up a state-of-the-art satellite network in the state, which will help in real-time monitoring and administrative work.

During the discussion on Budget 2025 in the Assam Assembly on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said that 4-5 satellites will be launched soon. Each satellite will cost around ₹60-70 crore. This system will help in flood forecasting, disaster management, monitoring illegal infiltration and drug trafficking, wildlife conservation and infrastructure development.

Dr Sarma said that the Assam government is in talks with IN-SPACe (Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center) to realize this ₹350 crore project. This satellite system will make the governance more effective and technologically self-reliant.

Apart from this, the Chief Minister announced the launch of an Assam-specific satellite in collaboration with ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) to take Assam ahead in the field of technology. This satellite will play an important role in flood forecasting, border management and strengthening the agriculture sector.
