Guwahati, 13 March (HS): Assam Pradesh Congress President Bhupen Bora has made baseless allegations regarding the budget and financial management of the state government. The BJP says that contrary to the false claims of Bhupen Bora, there has been no decline in the economic growth rate of Assam. Rather, due to the stable and visionary policies of the BJP government, the gross state domestic product of Assam has increased from ₹1.50 lakh crore during the Congress rule to ₹6.50 lakh crore today.
The BJP claimed that the economy of Assam has strengthened in the last nine years due to corruption-free and transparent revenue system. Under the able leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the capital expenditure of Assam has reached historic heights.
BJP Assam Pradesh spokesperson Subhash Dutta, in a statement, categorically rejected the allegations of Bhupen Bora and said that the financial condition of Assam is much stronger than the Congress-ruled states. He said that stabilizing the economy of Assam which was ruined during the Congress rule was a big challenge for the BJP government, but in just eight years, Assam’s GSDP increased by ₹5 lakh crore, which was possible due to the visionary policies of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Subhash Dutta accused Bhupen Bora of misleading the public about the financial condition of the state and termed it a failed attempt to spread negativity. He said that the capital expenditure of Assam during the Congress rule was only ₹ 4,500 crore, while this year it has reached ₹ 25,000 crore. This is the reason why the Congress leader is disappointed and frustrated with the progress of Assam.
The BJP spokesperson also mentioned the financial plight of Congress-ruled states.
He said that the Congress government of Karnataka has a debt of ₹ 6 lakh crore. The Congress government of Himachal Pradesh is in debt of ₹ 1 lakh crore. The Congress government of Telangana has a debt of ₹ 3.90 lakh crore.
Despite this, Assam Congress leaders are distorting facts and spreading false propaganda that only the Assam government is taking loans. Condemning this political hypocrisy, Subhash Dutta said that the Assam government has reduced its fiscal deficit every year.
He said that the loans taken by the Assam government are being strategically invested in capital expenditure, which is strengthening the state’s economy and increasing SGDP.
Subhash Dutta said that Assam is on the path of development under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the false propaganda policy of Congress will fail to mislead the public.
The Assam Pradesh BJP statement also accused the Congress leaders of making personal attacks against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and described it as motivated by frustration and political malice. The statement said that the aware people of Assam have rejected such false strategies of the Congress in the past and will continue to do so in future.
BJP attacked the Congress leaders and said that when Congress leaders involved in corruption talk about morality, it is nothing but pretense and hypocrisy.
