Chennai, 11 April (H.S.) : Nainar Nagendran has been appointed as the new president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu, replacing K Annamalai. Annamalai is set to take on a national role, leveraging his organizational skills to bolster the party’s presence across the country.

Nagendran was the sole candidate for the position, with the backing of the BJP leadership. He served as the state vice president and has a background in politics, having been an MLA from 2001 to 2016 and Transport Minister from 2011 to 2016 with the AIADMK.

Annamalai will contribute to the party’s national framework, utilizing his skills to enhance the party’s organizational structure. Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised Annamalai’s work in Tamil Nadu, highlighting his efforts in implementing party policies and programs.

Nagendran’s appointment marks a new chapter for the Tamil Nadu BJP, with expectations of strengthened party presence in the state. The party is likely to focus on alliance-building and strategic planning ahead of the 2026 state polls.
