Under PMMY, loans of ₹33 lakh crore approved without guarantees, 68% beneficiaries women: Pankaj Chaudhary

New Delhi/Nagpur, April 14 (H.S.): Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said on Monday that under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), over ₹33 lakh crore in collateral-free loans have been given to 520 million people to start businesses. Among these beneficiaries, 68% are women.

The Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance made these remarks while addressing the 77th batch of Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers at the National Academy of Direct Taxes in Nagpur. Pankaj Chaudhary commented on the country’s economic growth, stating, In the last 10 years, our government has provided over ₹33 lakh crore in collateral-free loans to 520 million people. These loans range from ₹50,000 to ₹20 lakh.

In his address as the chief guest at the IRS 77th batch’s convocation ceremony, the minister said, Today, people are starting new businesses with the help of these loans and contributing to the country’s economic growth. Chaudhary noted that these beneficiaries include 68% women who have initiated new ventures.

On this occasion, the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance extended best wishes to the newly trained officers for their future and encouraged them to strengthen the country’s economic structure and work with sensitivity towards taxpayers. Earlier, he paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by offering flowers at his statue and planted trees on the premises to convey a message of environmental conservation.

Additionally, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and ‘Bharat Ratna’, Chaudhary visited the sacred Diksha Bhoomi in Nagpur to pay his respects. The Finance Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India has undertaken unprecedented efforts to preserve Baba Saheb’s legacies and disseminate his ideas among the general populace. This includes the development of Panch Tirths, raising awareness of constitutional values, and taking concrete steps towards social justice, which serve as proof of this commitment.
