02 May (HS): With three persons killed and crops damaged in portions of Uttar
Pradesh due to rain-related occurrences, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath urged
officials on Friday to conduct relief and rescue efforts as soon as possible. He
urged district authorities to visit impacted regions, examine agricultural and
animal loss, and give help as soon as possible to individuals affected by
lightning strikes, rain-related incidents, or storm damage. Adityanath also
ordered a full crop damage assessment and urged authorities to submit their
assessments to the state government as soon as possible so that further compensation
could be pursued. He urged officials to prioritize drainage projects in urban
and low-lying regions that are prone to flooding. In separate events on Friday,
lightning hit and killed at least three individuals, including a 17-year-old
girl, and wounded numerous others.
Two
workers were killed in Firozabad while working on a road project under the
Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). A family attempting to cover a haystack with
a tarpaulin sheet to protect it from rain was also damaged. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has
expected showers and thunderstorms.
According
to the IMD, rain and thundershowers are expected in certain areas of western
Uttar Pradesh on May 3 and 4, accompanied with strong surface winds of 25-35
km/hr and gusty gusts of 40-50 km/hr in isolated areas. In east Uttar Pradesh,
sporadic rainfall is forecast on May 3, followed by more widespread showers on
May 4. Thunderstorms with lightning and
gusting gusts (30-50 km/hr) are expected. IMD has recommended citizens to
remain vigilant and take precautions in advance of potential weather
disruptions.
