
Delhi, 16 October (H.S.): India has moved a significant step closer to hosting the 2030 Centenary Commonwealth Games after the Commonwealth Sports Executive Board officially recommended Ahmedabad as the proposed host city . Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, celebrated the announcement, describing it as a historic moment for Indian sports and a major milestone in the nation’s sporting journey.
In a statement on social media, Dr. Mandaviya expressed his gratitude to the board and highlighted that the decision reflects India’s growing stature as a global sporting power under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He emphasized that this development significantly bolsters India’s ambitious bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games.
We are rapidly moving towards becoming a ‘nation of champions’ through world-class sports infrastructure, policy reforms, and financial support, the minister added.The recommendation will now be presented for final approval to the Commonwealth Games General Assembly, which is scheduled to meet in Glasgow on November 26, 2025. If ratified, it will mark the return of the Commonwealth Games to India for the first time since New Delhi hosted the event in 2010.
The 2030 Games hold special significance as they will mark the 100th anniversary of the event, celebrating a century of sport among the 74 member nations. The successful bid is seen as a testament to India’s proven organizational capabilities, having recently hosted several major international sporting events.
