
New Delhi, April 21 (HS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a review meeting on Monday with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at North Block to assess the implementation of three new criminal laws in the state. The meeting reviewed the implementation of various new provisions related to police, prisons, courts, prosecution, and forensic services, as well as the current status.
The meeting was attended by Chhattisgarh’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Chhattisgarh Chief Secretary, Director General of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), Director General of Chhattisgarh Police, and the Director of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), along with other senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Chhattisgarh government.
In his address, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the complete implementation of the three new criminal laws in Chhattisgarh should be treated as a top priority agenda. He mentioned that the aim of the three new criminal laws is to strengthen and modernize the Indian justice process. These reforms will greatly benefit states like Chhattisgarh. He urged Chhattisgarh to take the complete implementation of all three new criminal laws as a challenge and to quickly implement them to become an ideal state.
Amit Shah asserted that the Chhattisgarh government should ensure accountability by assigning responsibility to officers at the level of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to file chargesheets for serious crimes within 60 and 90 days. He emphasized that the entire process from recording evidence to conducting trials under the new criminal laws could be done via video conferencing, which would save a significant amount of manpower.
The Union Home Minister stressed that all police stations in Chhattisgarh and DSP-level officers should regularly utilize the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) in the investigation of serious crimes. He also recommended a structured review mechanism for the implementation of the new criminal laws in the state. Shah proposed that the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police should conduct weekly reviews, the state’s Home Minister should review progress every 15 days, and the Chief Minister should assess implementation on a monthly basis.
After the meeting, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai stated that as a result of the implementation of all three new criminal laws, the public would receive timely justice. He mentioned that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is continuously holding review meetings regarding this matter. He added that in the meeting, they presented the situation regarding the implementation of the three new criminal laws in the state through a presentation. He affirmed that they would comply with all directives issued by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
