Amritpal Singh and his associates to be shifted to Punjab from Assam Jail;state govt revokes NSA

Chandigarh, March 16 (H.S.): The National Security Act imposed on seven Khalistani extremists, including Amritpal Singh, who is charged with treason and is currently held in Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail, will be lifted. They will now be shifted to a Punjab jail as normal prisoners. The Punjab government will start the process of bringing these extremists back to Punjab on Monday.

The Punjab government has refused to continue the National Security Act against the seven associates of Amritpal Singh, the leader of the extremist organization ‘Waris Punjab De’ and Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib. Amritpal Singh and his associate Papalpreet Singh will remain in Dibrugarh Jail as the next hearing for their NSA case is scheduled in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on March 22, after which the government will make further decisions.

The Punjab Police will take action against all the seven individuals by bringing them from Dibrugarh Jail to Punjab, in connection with all the cases registered at the state’s police stations. Amritpal Singh’s eight associates had been arrested prior to him and were held in Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail. Along with Amritpal Singh and Papalpreet Singh, the others include Bhagwant Singh aka ‘Prime Minister’ Bajeeke, Daljeet Singh Kalsi, Basant Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Jeet Singh, Harjeet Singh, and Vikramjeet Singh. Seven of these accused will be brought to Punjab.
