Kalaburagi, 15 April(HS): Mrs Padma Reddy and A Rajeshwar Rao, the Hyderabad-based renowned Indian Masters couple, inaugurated veteran artist Chandrahas Jalihal’s Arunchandra Contemporary Art Studio on the first floor of his house at the Vijayanagar colony here. This facility in the whole of Kalyan(hitherto Hyderabad) Karnataka region is said to be the first of its kind in terms of personal capacity. A new building, aesthically designed by Vagish Naganur, a Bengaluru-based architect, has been constructed on the old premises, keeping into consideration the requirements of an art gallery.
Inauguration of Woodcut workshop: In the same event, Vijay Bagodi, eminent printmaker and former Dean, Faculty of Fine Arts, MS University of Baroda, inaugurated the Woodcut Workshop. Vijay Bagodi also happens to be the Director of the workshop.
Exhibition of graphic prints: Mrs Padma Reddy and A Rajeshwar Rao also inaugurated the exhibition of graphic prints by renowned Indian masters. The exhibits are the private collection of Chandrahas Jalihal, who was doing his Masters at the Shanti Niketan university and later. The studio’s name has been borrowed with his artist wife Anupama and his name.
Graphic prints by renowned masters: The graphic prints from the private collection of Chandrahas Y J are on display and include the works of acclaimed graphic print artists like Ramkinkar Baij, K G Subramanyam, Suhas Roy, Pinaki Barua, Suranjan Basu, Ravindra Reddy, Jogin Chowdhury, V G Andani, Lalu Prasad Sahu, C Chandrasekhar, Vijay Bagodi, Walter Dsouza, Manjhari Chakravarti, Paula Sengupta, Kavitha Shah, Debanath Bose, Sridhar Murthy, Alok Tirtha Bhowmick, Padma Reddy, Sumit Day, Salil Sahane, Parag Roy, Surekha, M G Doddamani.
A unique opportunity to witness: Chandrahas Jalihal, in his initial remarks, pointed out that the workshop was a unique opportunity to witness the works of legendary artists and explore the intricate techniques of printmaking.
Participating artists: The following artists are taking part in the printmaking workshop: Nagappa D Keri, Suryakanth Nandur, Annaray S Hangaragi, Doulatray S Desai, S S Margol, Monappa K Badiger, Nayana Baburao, Neelambika Hiremath, C S Sutar, Guruling S Arali, Kavita S Katte and Kavya Gaddi.
