Hangzhou, September 5(HS): The Indian women’s hockey team kicked off their Women’s Asia Cup 2025 campaign in sensational fashion, dismantling Thailand with a commanding 11–0 victory in their Pool-B encounter on Friday.
India will next face Japan on September 6 at 4:30 PM IST, a clash that is expected to test their attacking flair against tougher opposition.
For India, Mumtaz Khan (7’, 49’), Udita (30’, 52’), and Beauty Dung Dung (45’, 54’) struck twice each, while goals from Sangita Kumari (10’), Navneet Kaur (16’), Lalremsiami (18’), Sharmila Devi (57’), and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal (60’) added to the rout.
India asserted dominance from the opening quarter, with Mumtaz Khan and Sangita Kumari finding the net early. The momentum only grew in the second quarter as Navneet Kaur, Lalremsiami, and Udita (via penalty corner) extended the lead.
The Indians kept the pressure relentless in the third quarter, earning multiple penalty corners before Beauty Dung Dung struck her first goal. In the final quarter, India unleashed a flurry of goals — with Mumtaz, Udita, Beauty Dung Dung, Sharmila Devi, and Rutuja Pisal all scoring — to seal one of their most emphatic wins in Asia Cup history.
