Guwahati, 14 March (HS): The Assam government has appointed Makhan Phukan as the state’s first prosecution director (Director of Prosecution). This appointment has been made for the recently formed Directorate of Prosecution.

His tenure will be temporary for four months and he will get a pay scale of ₹1,99,100 – ₹2,24,100 along with other allowances.

Apart from this, Dhanesh Das, Shantanu Bhattacharya and Manas Haloi have been appointed as Deputy Prosecution Directors for a period of four months. They will be given a pay scale of ₹1,63,030 – ₹2,19,090 along with allowances.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on X about this appointment, With the appointment of Director for the newly formed Directorate of Prosecution, Assam has joined the leading states where law enforcement and judiciary will be supported by a dedicated prosecution cadre for fair and effective justice delivery.
