Guwahati 04 March (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has raised serious allegations regarding an ongoing Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into ISI links in India. Addressing the media on Tuesday, he hinted at a possible connection between a JNU professor’s husband and Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, a suspect with alleged ties to Pakistan’s intelligence agency.
Sarma disclosed that Sheikh had traveled across India 18 to 20 times before 2018. “The SIT is investigating his movements and connections. We might even seek Interpol’s assistance if required,” he said.
Shifting focus, the Chief Minister launched a scathing attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, questioning his alleged links to Pakistan. He also reacted sharply to Akhil Gogoi’s comments on Jhumoir Binandini, dismissing them as baseless. “Highly educated individuals perform this dance. There were no minor girls involved, so the question of missing exams does not arise,” he asserted.
Commenting on Ashok Singhal’s controversial statement on Bhaona, Sarma distanced himself from the issue, stating, “You should have invited me instead of him for such events.”
On the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) recruitment scam involving former chairman Rakesh Paul, he clarified, “No Congress leader’s name is in his list. The scandal revolved solely around money and women.”
