Guwahati, 24 February (HS): Assam state BJP President Dilip Saikia has said that during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam, the ‘Jhumur’ dance of the rich tea tribe and tribal community has been presented on the world stage, which is a historic achievement for the state. Through this festival, the cultural diversity, unity and brotherhood of Assam has been depicted. Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP-led government have shown commitment to take this historic initiative forward. On this occasion, State BJP President Dilip Saikia said that BJP is committed to the development of every community.

Celebration of Assam’s Tea Culture

On the ‘Jhumuir Binandini’ program organized to welcome Prime Minister Modi, Chairman Saikia said, This is a golden moment for the tea culture of Assam. The presence of the Prime Minister has increased the importance of this program. This initiative to bring the culture of the tea tribe and tribal community to the global platform is commendable. Saikia expresses gratitude to Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for this visionary effort. Bharatiya Janata Party is a party of cultural and geographical nationalism, which is continuously working for the cultural heritage, spiritual contemplation and economic progress of the country. Under the leadership of the BJP government, the tradition of promoting the cultural identity of the deprived and endangered communities at the national and international level will continue. ‘Jhumuir Binandini’ is an excellent example of this. President Saikia said, Our Government is equally committed to the upliftment of every community of Assam. Along with cultural promotion, we are also working for the economic development of these communities. The ongoing peace and development in the Bodoland Territorial Region, benefiting more than 35 lakh people, is a testimony to the inclusive development policy of the ‘Triple Engine’ Government. This momentum will continue.

Welfare schemes for tea tribe communities

Highlighting the BJP’s initiatives for the development of tea tribe communities, Saikia said, Our government has increased the wages of tea garden labourers to ₹251, established more than 200 government schools in tea garden areas, provided 3% reservation in Grade III and Grade IV posts of government jobs for tea tribe and tribal candidates and signed the historic tribal peace accord with tribal candidates. In addition, ₹1 crore has been allocated for road construction in 850 tea gardens. While under Shaheed Dayal Das Panika Yojana, financial assistance of ₹25,000 has been provided to eight thousand youths of tea-tribe communities. Besides, cultural platforms are being constructed in each tea garden with a grant of ₹15 lakh in honour of Malti Orang. These welfare measures reflect the BJP’s sincere commitment to the development and empowerment of tea-tribe communities. Enhancing Assam’s global prestige
