Madrid, September 14 (HS) : At least 25 people were injured on Saturday when a powerful explosion rocked the Mis Tesoros bar in the Puente de Vallecas district of Madrid, authorities confirmed.

Emergency services reported that two victims are in a serious condition, while three others are classified as potentially serious. The blast occurred around 3 p.m. (1300 UTC/GMT) and was reportedly caused by a gas leak, according to local media.

Carlos Marin, head of the Madrid City Council Fire Department, confirmed it was a gas explosion but said investigators are still unable to specify the exact type of gas, the precise cause, or the point of origin within the premises. Inmaculada Sanz, Deputy Mayor and Delegate for Security and Emergencies, emphasized that it is too early to predict what the cause of the explosion could have been.

Authorities have ruled out the possibility of additional victims trapped under the rubble. However, the nine residential units in the building will require temporary rehousing, as the structure has been deemed unstable, and access to the building is currently impossible.

The investigation into the cause and full impact of the explosion remains ongoing.
