Atletico Madrid forward Angel Correa suspended for five matches

Madrid, March 13 (HS): Atletico Madrid forward Angel Correa has been suspended for five matches by the disciplinary committee of the Spanish Football Federation. This decision was made following his red card received during the 2-1 loss against Getafe last weekend.

The Argentine player was sent off in the 87th minute for a dangerous tackle on Getafe defender Djene, after a VAR review, when his team was leading 1-0.

After receiving the red card, Correa uttered serious insults against referee Cuadra Fernandez, which led to his suspension being increased from one match to five matches.

As a result, Correa will now miss the upcoming La Liga matches against FC Barcelona next weekend, as well as against Espanyol, Sevilla, and Valladolid.

Additionally, since his suspension exceeds four matches, he will also have to serve a one-match ban in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals. This match will be played on April 2 at Atletico’s home ground against Barcelona. The first leg ended in a 4-4 draw.
