Bhubaneswar, 9 March (H.S.):An ATM robber was injured in a police encounter in Bhubaneswar’s Badagada area on Saturday night. The Special Squad of the Commissionerate Police apprehended interstate robber Deepak Kumar while he was attempting to loot an ATM.
Deepak Kumar, originally from Bihar, had come to Odisha with the intention of targeting multiple ATMs. During an attempted robbery at an ATM in the Badagada police station area, a confrontation ensued between the police and Deepak. When the police fired in retaliation, Deepak was shot in the leg. He was then admitted to Capital Hospital by the Special Squad and later transferred to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar for further treatment.
Deepak has several pending cases across various police stations in Bhubaneswar. His modus operandi involved inserting an adhesive substance inside ATM machines to cause the cash to get stuck when a customer withdrew money. The robbers would then collect the money after the customers, thinking it was a technical glitch, left the ATM.
