Ranchi, May 1 (H.S.): The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has apprehended Ammar Yasar, a suspected member of the banned terrorist organization Hizb ut-Tahrir, in Dhanbad. His mobile phone contained several documents linked to the organization. Previously, he was part of the Indian Mujahideen and was arrested in 2014 by Jodhpur police, spending nearly 10 years in jail before his release on bail in May 2024. He reconnected with Hizb ut-Tahrir through his associate Ayan Javed and others in Dhanbad. Police Chief Anurag Gupta confirmed Yasar’s involvement in anti-national activities related to Hizb ut-Tahrir, with his arrest occurring following identification from Ayan Javed, who had been arrested earlier.

On April 26, prior to Yasar’s capture, the ATS conducted raids in Dhanbad, leading to the arrests of Gulfam Hasan (21), Ayan Javed (21), Shabnam Parveen (20), and Mohammad Shahzad Alam (20). The raids resulted in the recovery of two pistols, 12 live cartridges, prohibited organizational literature, several mobile devices, and laptops. The detainees were presented in court on April 27 and sent to judicial custody before being placed on police remand for interrogation. Ayan Javed disclosed Ammar Yasar’s involvement with Hizb ut-Tahrir, which aims to establish a global caliphate. The group was banned in India in 2010 due to its extremist activities.
