London, 17 September (HS): Balochistan’s prominent nationalist leader, Hyrbyair Marri, delivered a scathing critique of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and its member states, in a statement posted today on X (formerly Twitter).
Speaking in the wake of the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit held in Doha, Marri pointed out the glaring contradictions in the positions adopted by countries such as Pakistan and Iran.
“At the summit, Pakistan and Iran condemned Israel for its attacks and delivered impassioned speeches on sovereignty,” Marri remarked. “Yet these are the very occupier states that deny sovereignty to millions of Baloch, Kurds, Pashtuns, Azeris, and the people of Al-Ahwaz living under their occupation.”
Marri underscored the hypocrisy of certain OIC members, highlighting that Turkey, Pakistan, and Iran frequently make loud pronouncements against genocide and advocate for Palestine and Kashmir, while remaining silent on systemic oppression within their own borders.
“The enforced disappearances, extrajudicial executions, military crackdowns, and cultural erasure in Balochistan and Kurdistan are never addressed on the OIC agenda,” Marri charged. “These Arab Gulf and Muslim-majority states are pouring millions into what I call the British-created ‘Project Pakistan,’ a state apparatus responsible for intensifying the brutal oppression of indigenous peoples.”
He criticized the use of petrodollars as a tool for political expediency. “Qatar, with its population of just three million, leads the chorus of condemnation against Israeli strikes, yet remains silent about the 50 million Kurds, around 30 million Pashtuns under Pakistani occupation, and over 25 million Azeris. Justice cannot be selective,” Marri said.
Turning his focus to recent remarks by the Pakistani Prime Minister about the creation of a Muslim task force aimed at defending Muslim nations, Marri dismissed the proposal as mere political theater. “The real oppressors of Muslims are other Muslims,” he argued. “Pakistan has a long history of attempting to colonize Afghanistan and fueling a civil war that lasted three decades. Mark my words: this ‘task force’ will never serve the people’s interests. It exists solely to protect Muslim regimes and enable them to further subjugate oppressed peoples, plunder resources, and destroy identities.”
Marri concluded with a call for genuine solidarity and justice for all oppressed nations within the Muslim world, warning that until the aspirations of occupied peoples are heard, the OIC will continue to serve as a tool of authoritarian regimes rather than the voice of the people.
