Dhaka, March 13 (H.S.): Amid rising tensions between New Delhi and Dhaka, Bangladesh’s interim government is reaching out to China. The Chief Adviser, Dr. Mohammad Yunus, is scheduled to visit China at the end of this month, with a crucial meeting planned with Chinese President Xi Jinping on March 28. Discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations and the evolving geopolitical landscape. Reports indicate that initiatives such as Global Development Initiatives (GDI), Global Security Initiatives (GSI), and Global Civilization Initiatives (GCI) may be on the agenda.
This visit is deemed highly significant by Dhaka, with preparations already underway. Besides the meeting in Beijing, Yunus will also address the Boao Forum for Asia from March 25 to 28, where his presence has been confirmed following the planned meeting with Xi Jinping. Several agreements between Bangladesh and China may be signed during this visit.
Bangladesh’s relationship with China is underscored by its status as Dhaka’s largest trading partner, with growing interest from Chinese investors. Notably, diplomatic relations can shift rapidly; Bangladesh’s previous close ties with India have cooled, while dialogues with the Trump administration have intensified. The evolving diplomatic landscape highlights the transient nature of international relations and the importance of strategic partnerships.
