Bank credit expansion decelerates to 4.9 percent in two weeks ending May 30: RBI

Mumbai, 30 June (H.S.): Bank credit to the industrial sector grew by 4.9 percent in the two weeks ending May 30, compared to an 8.9 percent increase in the same timeframe last year, the Reserve Bank reported on Monday.

The RBI has published the data on the sectoral allocation of bank credit for May 2025 obtained from 41 chosen scheduled commercial banks (SCBs), which represent approximately 95 percent of the overall non-food credit provided by all commercial banks.

On a year-on-year (y-o-y) basis, non-food bank credit as of the fortnight ending May 30, 2025, increased by 9.8 percent compared to 16.2 percent in the same fortnight the prior year (May 31, 2024).
