New Delhi, 19 May (H.S.): Due to ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to withdraw from both the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup and the Men’s Asia Cup. This withdrawal raises concerns about the future of the Men’s Asia Cup, which India is set to host in September in T20 format, featuring teams such as Bangladesh, UAE, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, and Oman. Reports indicate that the BCCI has officially notified the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) of their decision.
The ACC is currently led by Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s Interior Minister. India, the defending champion of the Men’s Asia Cup after defeating Sri Lanka in 2023, faced similar tensions during the last event, which was shifted to Sri Lanka due to India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan.
The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy also adopted a hybrid model due to India’s stance. Without India participating, the Asia Cup will present challenges for Sony Sports Network, which has a broadcast deal covering ACC tournaments from 2024 to 2031.
