Bellingham Brilliance Sinks Barça in Heated El Clásico

MADRID, 27 October (H.S.): Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé delivered decisive goals on Monday to power Real Madrid to a 2-1 victory over Barcelona in a contentious first El Clásico of the 2025-26 La Liga season, extending their lead at the top of the table to five points.

Playing under new manager Xabi Alonso, Real Madrid exacted revenge for last season’s four defeats against their archrivals. The hard-fought match at a roaring Santiago Bernabéu saw Madrid demonstrate their title credentials.

Mbappé opened the scoring early, converting an assist from Bellingham for his 11th goal of the season. Barcelona, managed by assistant coach Marcus Sorg in the absence of the suspended Hansi Flick, drew level in the 38th minute when Fermín López found the net off a cross from Marcus Rashford. However, the deadlock was short-lived, as Bellingham scored a crucial goal just five minutes later to restore Madrid’s lead heading into halftime.

Barcelona’s woes were compounded by injuries to key players, including Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, and Dani Olmo. Teenage star Lamine Yamal, who was returning from an injury, appeared short of full fitness and was audibly booed by the home crowd following controversial pre-match comments accusing Real Madrid of stealing and complaining.

The second half was a tense affair. Mbappé had a chance to seal the victory from the penalty spot, but his effort was brilliantly saved by Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny. Despite Barcelona’s efforts to find an equalizer, Madrid’s defense, anchored by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, held firm.

Tensions boiled over in the final stages when Barça midfielder Pedri was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, leading to a brief scuffle between players.

Final Score: Real Madrid 2–1 Barcelona

Goals: Mbappé (15’), Bellingham (43’) — Fermín López (38’)
