BJP slams Karnataka Home Minister over his controversial remarks

Shahzad Poonawala

New Delhi, April 7 (H.S.): Karnataka’s Home Minister G. Parameshwara has sparked controversy for his remarks on women’s sexual harassment following an incident involving two women in Bengaluru. He suggested that such harassment is common in large cities and assured that legal measures would be followed.

The BJP criticized him, with spokesperson Shahzad Poonawala stating that the minister trivialized a serious event that has deeply affected the public, particularly women in Karnataka. He highlighted that a CCTV-recorded harassment incident remains unresolved after several days, with no arrests made by the police, branding the Home Minister’s comments as absurd.

Poonawala also denounced the Congress’s slogan I am a girl, I can fight, proposing that it should reflect concerns over safety in Congress-ruled states instead. He noted a 50 percent rise in rape and harassment cases since Congress took power and questioned what actions would be taken against the Home Minister for his inadequate responses to women’s safety.
