Delhi, 18 May (H.S.): The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), in collaboration with the FIT INDIA Movement, hosted a nationwide cyclothon named “Sundays on Cycle” to commemorate the nearing completion of eight years of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The event took place at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, drawing participation from over 100 CGST commissionerates nationwide. Shri Shashank Priya, Member (GST) of CBIC, highlighted GST’s transformative impact on India’s tax system, merging approximately 30 indirect taxes into a single, transparent framework that simplifies compliance for businesses and citizens alike. He also emphasized benefits for small taxpayers, such as the GST Composition Scheme and the Quarterly Return Monthly Payment (QRMP) Scheme, aimed at reducing the compliance burden.
Prominent Bollywood figures, including Mr. Sunil Shetty and Mr. John Abraham, participated to promote the event. The cyclothon witnessed enthusiastic involvement from over 50,000 cyclists, including senior CBIC officials and representatives from various ministries.
An on-site GST Help Desk provided participants the chance to inquire about GST, while informational brochures on key GST topics were distributed, and digital kiosks enabled easy access to GST resources. Vibrant banners illustrating key reforms and taxpayer-centric initiatives were also prominently displayed, reinforcing CBIC’s aim of making GST more accessible.
This initiative aligns public health advocacy with taxpayer engagement, showcasing CBIC’s commitment to fostering innovative, inclusive outreach efforts as India celebrates eight years of progress under the GST regime.
