Nagpur, 21 Mar (HS):-
Maharashtra Education Minister Dada Bhuse announced on Thursday that the
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) system will be implemented in
government schools across the state starting from the academic year 2025-26. He
also confirmed that CBSE textbooks in Marathi will be made available by April 1.
The Education
Department has directed schools under the State Education Boards to implement
the CBSE curriculum, Bhuse informed the Legislative Council on Thursday. The
Minister was responding to a query raised by BJP legislator Prasad Lad.
The government
has taken this decision with an aim of improving the quality of education in the
state, he said. The announcement comes days after the Steering Committee had
approved the State Curriculum Framework in coordination with the School
Education Department.
Chief Minister
Devendra Fadnavis recently reviewed the progress of all departments, including
the School Education Department, for the next 100 days. During the meeting, he
expressed confidence that Maharashtra would once again lead in the field of
school education. The Chief Minister instructed the Education Department to
take necessary steps to ensure quality education and directed the School
Education Department to implement the CBSE curriculum in state government
schools, making the required changes for its adoption.
The
transition to the new system will occur in phases, starting with Classes 1, 3,
5, 8, and 11 in the first phase. Bhuse further explained that while most
elements of the CBSE curriculum have been finalized, discussions are still
ongoing for its full-scale implementation. The goal is to provide students with
a modern, flexible, and skill-oriented learning experience.
The CBSE curriculum
follows the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims
to transform the education system through the 5+3+3+4 structure. The curriculum
emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, moving
away from rote learning.
NEP also
introduces greater flexibility in subject choices, allowing students to explore
interests across different streams. It prioritizes multilingual education and
implements continuous assessments to track student progress. This new approach
aims to bring Indian education up to global standards, improving student
performance in both higher education and competitive exams.
To facilitate a
smooth transition, the Maharashtra government will provide teacher training and
new learning materials aligned with the CBSE pattern. Special focus will be
given to ensuring that teachers are equipped to handle the new syllabus and
adapt to modern teaching methodologies. Regular evaluations will be conducted
to monitor the effectiveness of the reforms and address any learning gaps that
may arise.
