CCI Organises 10th Edition of National Conference on Economics of Competition Law

Delhi, 16 March (H.S.): The Competition Commission of India (CCI) held the 10th National Conference on Economics of Competition Law in New Delhi, featuring Keynote Speaker Harsh Malhotra, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport. CCI Chairperson Ravneet Kaur also addressed the inaugural session. Since 2016, the annual conference gathers scholars, practitioners, and experts in competition law economics. Malhotra highlighted India’s high-growth economy, emphasizing competition law’s role in ensuring fair market conditions, especially for the MSME sector, vital for GDP and exports. He called for proactive stakeholder engagement, real-time market monitoring, and promoting self-regulation, underscoring the conference’s importance for future economic growth.

Ravneet Kaur, Chairperson of CCI, emphasized the need for regulators to adopt a dynamic approach in navigating increasingly complex markets, particularly due to rapid technological innovation. She highlighted the importance of balancing innovation with competition and the role of Artificial Intelligence in shaping modern markets.

To address challenges like algorithmic collusion and anti-competitive behaviors, she underscored the value of Market Studies as essential for proactive regulation. Smt. Kaur also discussed the enhancements brought by the Competition Amendment Act, 2023, emphasizing collaborations with stakeholders. The National Conference featured sessions on competition law economics and concluded with discussions on trust-based market corrections.
