Centre and States/UTs Deliberate at Chintan Shivir to Strategize for 2028 Olympics

Delhi, 7 March (H.S.): Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment,Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, chaired a two-day Chintan Shivir in Telangana to discuss India’s preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and its bid for the 2036 Summer Olympics. Key topics included talent identification, coaching methods, infrastructure development, and corporate partnerships.

Dr. Mandaviya highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s vision for hosting the 2036 Olympics and emphasized collaborative efforts among States/UTs. The Khelo India initiative’s significant impact was noted, with over 2,800 academies and 937 operational centers aimed at nurturing young athletes and creating a national athlete registry.

Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the importance of a scientific approach to talent identification and management, involving National Sports Federations to support the Olympic mission. He advocated for strengthening grassroots sports by nurturing young athletes aged 9-14 and announced new Khelo India initiatives, including beach games and indigenous sports, to enhance regional participation.

Discussions underscored the need for transparency in sports governance to build confidence and foster an athlete-centric model. Infrastructure development was highlighted, calling for efficient use of existing facilities and the establishment of District-Level Sports Schools. A meditation session and cultural program celebrated India’s heritage during the event.
