Washington/Utah, 17 September (H.S.): Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspect in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University, allegedly confessed to the killing in a hidden note and a series of text messages to his roommate and romantic partner, prosecutors revealed. The note was found hidden under a keyboard in their shared apartment, stating, I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it. In the subsequent texts, Robinson admitted to the shooting, citing his motive as having enough of his hatred and saying some hate can’t be negotiated out.

Robinson’s roommate, who is transgender and transitioning from male to female, discovered the note after Robinson instructed them via text to check under the keyboard. When the roommate initially reacted with shock and disbelief, Robinson confirmed, I am, I’m sorry. The texts also revealed that Robinson planned the attack for over a week and expressed regret that he was unable to retrieve the rifle he left behind due to police lockdowns. Prosecutors further disclosed that Robinson’s DNA was found on the trigger of the bolt-action rifle used in the shooting.

Robinson appeared remotely at his first court hearing, facing seven charges including aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and committing a violent crime in the presence of children. Prosecutors announced their intent to seek the death penalty. The suspect was arrested following a 33-hour manhunt and was reportedly persuaded to surrender by his parents and a family friend, after hints of involvement and threats of self-harm surfaced during family confrontations.

The shooting occurred as Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was answering a question about mass shootings related to transgender individuals. The bullet struck Kirk in the neck, killing him immediately. The slaying shocked the political community, prompting widespread condemnation and calls for justice. Authorities emphasized that Robinson remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The full chain of text communications exposes a chilling plan and confession by the alleged shooter and deepens the tragic political divide sparked by the incident.

This detailed revelation sheds light on motive, planning, and the suspect’s own admissions, marking a significant development in the high-profile case.
