Bhubaneswar, 11 May (H.S.): In a significant step towards strengthening Odisha’s scientific and technological landscape, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the allocation of 100 acres of land for the establishment of a state-of-the-art Science City in Bhubaneswar.
The announcement was made by Science and Technology Minister Krushna Chandra Patra during the National Technology Day celebrations on Sunday. Speaking to the media, the Minister highlighted the strategic importance of the project, noting that the Science City will position Odisha as a hub for scientific research, innovation, and education.
“There are currently only two or three Science Cities in the country — in Kolkata and Hyderabad. With the approval of 100 acres of land by the Chief Minister, Bhubaneswar will soon join this elite list,” said Minister Patra.
The proposed Science City, to be developed in the Chandaka area of Bhubaneswar, will serve as an interactive platform for students and the general public to explore advancements in science and technology. It will feature regular exhibitions, workshops, and events aimed at cultivating scientific curiosity and promoting innovation.
“This initiative will inspire young minds, broaden their perspectives, and nurture a scientific temperament across society,” the Minister added.
As part of the broader vision, the project will also include the development of a biotechnology park to encourage collaboration between researchers and industry leaders. The park will provide a space for innovation, research commercialization, and the showcasing of cutting-edge scientific work.
