
Guwahati, 02 March (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday paid tribute to famous flute player and musician Pt. Prabhat Sharma, recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, on his death anniversary. He said that Prabhat Sharma was not only a great folk music practitioner, but also had a very simple and easy-going personality.
The Chief Minister said that his personality always fascinated us and the tunes of his flute thrilled our heart and soul. The invaluable contribution made by Prabhat Sharma in the rich field of Assam’s culture will continue to flow from generation to generation. I pay tribute to him on this auspicious death anniversary.
It is noteworthy that Pandit Prabhat Sharma was one of the famous folk music practitioners of Assam. He gave a new identity to Assamese folk music and took it to the country and abroad. His style of playing the flute was unique, which mesmerized the audience. He took part in various concerts and folk festivals and carried forward the cultural heritage of Assam.
He was honoured with many prestigious awards for his incomparable contribution to folk music. His work is still alive in the hearts of Assamese music lovers and his music will remain an inspiration for generations to come.
