Guwahati, 24 April (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, without naming Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, has accused him of serious national security concerns. He claimed that the Congress MP from Assam visited Pakistan for 15 days without informing the Government of India and the Government of Assam. Chief Minister Dr. Sarma was addressing a press conference on Thursday.
Without naming the MP, the Chief Minister said that the visit was made by land route through the Attari border to avoid security checks at airports. Sarma also said that during the same period, the said MP also visited Nepal and Dubai – countries where, according to him, Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI is quite active.
The Chief Minister said, This is not a normal case. The MP did not inform any government authority. There is no information about any public event during this visit. This entire matter happened in a clandestine manner.
In another sensational claim, the chief minister said the MP’s wife received salary from a Pakistani organisation for three years while she was in Delhi. We have documentary evidence and statements of members of that organisation which confirm this transaction, he said.
The case is now under investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT will question and record statements of the MP and his family in June or July. The full report is likely to be brought out before September.
This is a very serious matter related to national security. The SIT will also investigate whether the visits to Pakistan and Nepal were linked or were made independently. It is our commitment to bring the truth before the public, the chief minister said.
