Kathmandu, October 8(HS): Nepal’s Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against two former ministers from the ousted KP Sharma Oli government in connection with a land misuse and bribery scandal. The case has been registered at the country’s Special Court in Kathmandu.
According to CIAA Commissioner Jay Bahadur Chand, the case was officially submitted to the court and is currently under review. The charges stem from alleged irregularities in land transactions in the Lichi Garden area of Pokhara, where officials reportedly accepted bribes and misused public property.
The anti-corruption body has named seven individuals in total, including former ministers Raj Kumar Gupta and Ranjita Shrestha, as primary accused in the case. Both Gupta and Shrestha were forced to resign from their posts earlier this year after the scandal came to light in the media.
The case underlines the CIAA’s continued scrutiny of corruption-related activities involving former government officials and public representatives in Nepal.
